Objective

- you know the skill level required to write academic papers
- you are able to explore the concepts of context, formality, and reports, as well as the basics of argumentation in writing.
- you understand academic vocabulary related to your field of study and can use key terms in formal writing
- you know the key elements of text and paragraph structure in writing and are able to apply this knowledge in thesis writing
- you are able to compose a formal report or review by the end of the course and are aware of many of the elements which will be needed in writing the thesis.

Teaching methods

The style and language of academic reporting and thesis writing in English.
Aims:
- you know the skill level required to write academic papers
- you are able to explore the concepts of context, formality (scientific writing style), and reports, as well as the basics of argumentation and paraphrasing in writing.
- you understand academic vocabulary related to your field of study and can use key terms in formal writing
- you know the key language structures and the elements of text and paragraph structure in writing and are able to apply this knowledge in thesis writing
- you are able to compose a formal report (thesis text) or review by the end of the course and are aware of many of the elements which will be needed in writing the thesis
- you understand the importance of process writing, and are able to analyse and report about research data.

Written exams or assignments during the course.
The contact teaching lessons include also spoken tasks on the course topics.

Completion alternatives

Accreditation of prior learning (AHOT) and the demonstration is to be discussed separately with the teacher in charge. The student presents the proof of prior learning and suggests a way to demonstrate the skills.
