Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), full-time studies, Business Academy (Y-akatemia)

As a graduate of Business Academy of Karelia University of Applied Sciences, you will find employment in various business administration positions, such as financial administration, management positions, and sales and marketing positions in different industries or as an entrepreneur. At Business Academy, you can combine studying and developing your own business idea or business with your own studies: You study business skills, working life skills, management and entrepreneurship in a cooperative company that you have established through team learning.

For the first year and a half in the day group of business education, you will study the core competence of business education and become familiar with the business sector, and you will be prepared to develop into a competent Bachelor of Business Administration. In the middle of the second year of study, you will transfer to study in the multidisciplinary learning environment of Business Academy At Business Academy, you will study in accordance with the Academy's curriculum in student entrepreneurial teams until the end of your studies and graduate as a Bachelor of Business Administration.

Karelia University of Applied Sciences works in active cooperation with the business and business life of the region, so your studies are close to working life thanks to various collaborative projects. At the same time, you are building your networks with your future career in mind.

Description of Competence

During your studies, you will acquire a wide-ranging and diverse core competence in business administration and deepen it with practical projects. Depending on your choices, you will learn to identify and develop your skills in areas such as business, entrepreneurship, marketing, sales, economics, and management.

After completing the Business Entrepreneurship and Team Learning entity:
* You have a broad knowledge of the operating environment of entrepreneurship, you are able to work in a multidisciplinary team.
* Development as a leader of yourself and your team, you are able to design and implement services and products for different target groups.
* Understand the operating model and basic principles of a team-learning organisation and know how to sell and market services in different channels.
* You are able to work in networks and have a lot of contacts with working life and employers.
* You are able to operate in international networks and understand the importance of global cooperation in business.
* Develop your presentation and sales skills.

Competence building and training content

The key themes of the studies are business administration, entrepreneurship, team learning, management, internationality, sales expertise and marketing. In your own company, you do diverse customer projects for customers. You work in projects at the customer interface in different roles and thus you become familiar with customer understanding, productisation of services, sales and marketing expertise.

During your studies:

* Identify and develop key working life metaskills.
* Develop an entrepreneurial attitude.
* Develop your communication and interaction skills and digital competence.
* You develop as a problem solver.

Internships play a key role in studies. You can complete an internship in your own company at Business Academy or at another organisation of your choice. It is possible for your previous or elsewhere acquired knowledge to be credited as part of the degree.

The scope of the bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship and Team Learning is 210 credits. The degree includes an internship of 30 credits and there are diverse opportunities for exchange studies. The degree includes a 15-credit thesis. During your studies, you will also study language and communication studies.

For the first year and a half, you will study 90 credits of core business education with the Business Administration Education Day Group, and you will become familiar with the business administration sector and gain the skills to develop into a competent Bachelor of Business Administration in your studies. In the middle of the second year of study, you will transfer to study in the multidisciplinary learning environment of Business Academy. At Business Academy, you will study in accordance with the Academy's curriculum until the end of your studies and graduate as a Bachelor of Business Administration.

Work-life-stage learning

Karelia University of Applied Sciences' multidisciplinary team learning environment enables diverse cooperation with various actors. The operations of your own company are strongly linked to the making of other actors in the area. You are constantly working at the interface of companies and creating strong networks with organisations supporting entrepreneurship and other companies in the region. Karelia University of Applied Sciences actively cooperates with companies, organisations and various stakeholders. Research and development activities are carried out with the partners, which you can participate in during your studies.

You will benefit from Karelian partnerships in finding internship and thesis opportunities as well as in international trainee and student exchange.
Students who have graduated from Karelia (alumni) keep in touch with the University of Applied Sciences in Karelia's alumni network. Alumni share their experiences and their own career stories with students and are closely involved as experts in Karelia's development activities.

Pedagogical choices

In Business Academy, learning takes place in teams. Team learning is based on openness, interaction, and a culture of direct speech, which together build trust. The team learning model considers each student's own way of learning, which is why each student's path is shaped into its own.

In the third semester of your studies, you will complete a thesis. During your studies, you can strengthen your expertise in business administration with elective studies, such as joint studies in Karelia or studies from other higher education institutions in the Campus online offering.

Flexible completion of studies

You will receive support and guidance throughout your studies from a teacher tutor, guidance counselor and teachers. At the beginning of your studies, you draw up a personal study plan that guides your studies and is updated annually. In the autumn of your second year of study, you will select complementary skills studies to help you profile your skills. You can also choose to complete your studies through online studies and studies at other universities of applied sciences through the national study offer.

You can accelerate your studies by making use of your previously acquired competence suitable for the degree and to complete studies as evidence of competence.

Internationalisation

The internationality of Business Academy studies develops your professional competence, strengthens your language and communication skills, and supports your ability to work with different kinds of people. At the same time, you will get to know new people and strengthen your networks.

At the Academy, you can join an international committee of students who work in English. The committee develops cooperation with academies in other countries and coordinates international visits to the Business Academy.

You can apply for a student exchange at a partner university of interest to you around the world and/or do some of your internships abroad. Shorter exchanges through joint project work are also possible in the academy.

You can also internationalise at home. In the international committee of Business Academy, you will increase your language skills, you will get to peek into a new culture for you. In addition, the international studies offered jointly at Karelia University of Applied Sciences provide a good opportunity to develop the skills needed in working life.

Competence assessment

Prior to your choice of complementary competence for Business Academy, assessment of your competence is carried out in different forms in teaching and guidance situations, exams, and based on different learning assignments and reports. The assessment makes use of students' self-assessment and peer review and feedback from fellow students. The assessment also makes use of feedback from working life in projects carried out in working life cooperation. With the help of evaluation and the feedback you receive, you can follow the development of your competence and set new goals for studying and learning. Karelia uses common assessment criteria, but more detailed assessment criteria have been defined in the course descriptions.

At Business Academy, competence assessment is based on the evidence of continuous competence as well as the self-assessment of the reflection essay at the end of the study themes and the coach to give a grade on the study theme.

Career opportunities and career guidance

After completing the degree, you will have a wide range of opportunities to work as an entrepreneur or as an expert in paid employment. Job titles can include, for example, CEO, entrepreneur, human resources planner, HR coordinator, financial manager, financial advisor, administrative manager, service specialist/manager, sales negotiator/manager, marketing planner/manager, export assistant.

During your studies, you will receive support and guidance in planning your own career from your guidance counselor, teacher tutors and teachers, as well as Business Academy team coaches. During your studies, you will also receive support for your career planning in guidance discussions and enhanced career guidance at the end of your studies.

Changes in working life and your own career development require continuous learning even after completing your degree. A significant part of learning takes place in the context of work, but it can be enhanced through training. You can complement your own competence with studies at an open university of applied sciences or with education aiming at a higher university of applied sciences degree. The completion of a master's degree opens up opportunities for you, for example, to hold supervisory positions, demanding expert and development positions, or to become a teacher.

You can apply to complete a master’s degree in business administration when you have accumulated two years of work experience in the field after completing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree. You can also apply to the university for master’s programmers in Economics. The Study Instructor and Teacher Tutor will support you in your career planning throughout your studies.

Shared competences of UAS Bachelor's degrees 2022

In Finnish universities of applied sciences, the competences of degrees have been defined as programme-specific competences and shared competences. Competences refer to extensive competence modules, which are combinations of individual knowledge, skills and attitudes. Programme-specific competences form the basis of a student's professional expertise. 1 Learning to Learn
