Objective

The Student will: - Get familiar with the main uses of wood and main fields of the mechanical and chemical forest industries, as well as the processing methods and use of solid wood and fiber based products. - Identify general development trends in the wood products sector - Recognize the importance of the wood product industries to the Finnish and global economy.

Contact teaching. Teaching can partly be organized in hybrid mode. Learning reports are made from the lectures. Final exam.

Content

Development of wood product industries in Finland. The chain from harvested wood into various products. Processes at the sawmill, wood-based panel factories, and other wood product industries. Basic information on fibre-based products and their significance. Industrial activities and national and global significance of forest industries. Environmental views are briefly discussed in different lectures.

Exam schedules

The re-sitting exam of School of Forest sciences is in June 2026. The registration for the re-sitting exams on Peppi (Exams) no later than 10 days before the exam date.

Qualifications

LM00DK91 Wood structure and properties course is highly beneficial but not a mandatory prerequisite.
