Objective

The student will be able to: - identify the basic concepts and methods applied in remote sensing and geoinformatics - identify different remote sensing data and can handle them using geospatial software  - understand how remote sensing is utilised in forest research - understand the main advantages and restrictions of remote sensing - interpret statistical models for the prediction of forest attributes

Methods of completion

MOOC-online course.

Methods of completion

Completion of MOOC course modules (6 x 5 h), exercises (15 h) and independent studying (20 h). Each module comprises a theoretical part (video and text contents), practical exercises and an online exam. The completed MOOC course credits are marked three times a year: at the end of January, May and September. Grading pass/fail. A pass requires the completion of the MOOC course.

Content

Physical fundamentals and basic concepts of remote sensing and basic concepts of geoinformatics. The basic concepts of aerial and satellite imaging, laser scanning and microwave remote sensing. The basics of handling and processing of remote sensing data using geospatial software. Utilisation of remote sensing in forest research.
