Objective

The student will be able to: - Understand the basic structure of trees and wood material, as well as the general structure-property relationships in wood' - Know the basic concepts in wood-water interactions and their consequences - Become familiar with wood mechanics and understand how the mechanical performance of a wood product depends on different factors - Know the relevant industrial and non-industrial applications of wood raw materials - Understand the sustainability concepts and related challenges from the viewpoint of wood use. 

Methods of completion

Hybrid lectures, demonstrations require participation in the session. Final exam in EXAM.

Study methods: lectures (20 h), demonstrations (9 h) and reporting, individual learning of course literature. Evaluation criteria: exam (60%), learning tasks (40%) Grading scale 0-5

Content

The course consists of the basic of wood structure and properties, including basic scientific concepts and main features and determination of some wood properties. The course also examines the connections between these properties and their effects on industrial applications of wood.
