Objective

The student • can perform in informal and some formal communication contexts in their studies and work. • understands formal spoken and written communication and can recognize and somewhat use different spoken registers. • can present in detail topics within their own discipline and academic interests. • can follow general societal discussions in the media about, for example, employment, health, well-being and the environment. • knows Finnish society and basic societal structures (such as the education system, job applications). The objective is to attain the level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference.

Classroom teaching, blended teaching, online study

Methods of completion

Study methods Lectures, spoken and written pair and group exercises, peer feedback and independent study. The course requires a total of 108 hours of work. The successful completion of the course and participating in a possible exam require active participation and the completion of course assignments within the specified schedule. The course is considered interrupted if the student has not returned the assignments within the specified schedule. In this case, the course must be taken completely again. Evaluation criteria Participating in exercises, assignments, final exam and possibly a midterm.
