1. Self-Paced Learning - Learners access course materials at their own convenience via an online learning platform (Cisco NetAcad, Moodle, etc.). - Content is structured into modules or units, allowing learners to progress in sequence or revisit topics as needed. 2. Practical Exercises - Interactive labs or simulations (e.g., Cisco Packet Tracer, virtual machines) provide hands-on experience. - These are usually embedded in each module to reinforce theoretical knowledge. - Completion may be tracked automatically or submitted as part of progress monitoring. 3. Review Tests - Short quizzes or knowledge checks are included after each module. - These tests help learners assess their understanding before progressing. - Some platforms require a minimum score to unlock the next module or to be eligible for the final test. 4. Final Assessment (Web-Based Final Test) - A comprehensive online exam covering all course content. - Typically timed and sometimes proctored, depending on the platform. - A minimum passing score, 70% is required to complete the test successfully.

hese courses offer a comprehensive foundation in industrial networking, control systems, IIoT technologies, and cybersecurity—key pillars of today’s Industry 4.0 and smart infrastructure. Here’s why this course bundle is valuable for learners, professionals, and organizations: 1. Industrial Networking Essentials The Industrial Networking Essentials course is ideal for learners with basic computer and network familiarity, curious about Industrial Networking and Operational Technology (OT). Core networking concepts in industrial settings, bridging IT and OT Fundamentals of networking tailored to industrial use: Ethernet, IP, routing, VLANs, access/control layers Industrial communication protocols: Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus, IEC‑61850, MQTT, OPC‑UA Industrial network design: Purdue model, segmentation, redundancy, timing (PTP), high-availability topologies 2. The Industrial Control Systems and IIoT Essentials courses cover the same core topics in Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), but each course is tailored to a specific industry context Energy and Manufacturing). Students are encouraged to choose the course that best aligns with their field of study or professional interests. However, it is also entirely possible—and beneficial—for students to take both courses if they wish to gain a broader understanding of how Industrial Control Systems and IIoT technologies apply across multiple industries. 2A. Industrial Control Systems and IIoT Essentials in Energy Tailored for students whose major or career goals relate to the energy sector, such as electrical engineering, power systems, or smart grid technology. It emphasizes industrial automation and IIoT applications specific to energy production, distribution, and management. 2B. Industrial Control Systems and IIoT Essentials in Manufacturing Intended for students focused on manufacturing, production engineering, industrial automation, or mechanical engineering. It explores how IIoT and control systems are applied in factory environments, robotics, process control, and smart manufacturing. 3. Industrial Cybersecurity Essentials The Industrial Cybersecurity Essentials course covers foundational cybersecurity concepts specifically tailored for industrial control systems (ICS) and IIoT environments.. Cybersecurity principles for industrial systems Threats and attack techniques relevant to industrial settings Regulations and frameworks guiding OT security Risk assessments, vulnerability analysis, and mitigation strategies Network hardening: segmentation, authentication, access control Defensive tools and techniques: intrusion detection, secure protocols Exploration of cutting-edge security frontiers in OT Motivation As you move through the modules, you will: Learn how IT and OT systems converge in industrial environments. Understand how industrial networks function and are secured. Explore the applications of IIoT in the energy and manufacturing sectors. Build foundational awareness of cybersecurity risks and protections for control systems. You are encouraged to progress through the courses one at a time, completing all units and assessments in each before moving on to the next. End-to-End Industrial Digital Skills You’ll build practical knowledge across the entire industrial technology landscape—from basic industrial networking and control systems to energy systems, manufacturing environments, and cybersecurity. Structured, Progressive Learning Each course builds on the previous one: Start with Industrial Networking Essentials to understand the foundation of communication systems. Continue with ICS and IIoT in Energy and Manufacturing to see how those networks are used in real-world industry-specific contexts. Finish with Industrial Cybersecurity Essentials to learn how to protect these systems from modern cyber threats. Relevant to Real-World Jobs Industries across the globe are integrating IT and OT systems, creating demand for professionals who understand both the technology and the industrial context. These courses help prepare you for careers in: Industrial automation Smart manufacturing Energy infrastructure Industrial IT/OT integration Cybersecurity for critical systems Cybersecurity as a Core Skill Cybersecurity is no longer optional. This package ensures you're equipped to recognize, prevent, and respond to cybe

The workspace in Metropolia's Moodle guides the completion of the course modules. Each module in the Moodle workspace includes instructions and links to the corresponding courses in Cisco NetAcad, as well as a final exam to be taken at the end of each module. The workspaces in the Cisco NetAcad portal consist of four separate courses (units), each completed independently: 1. Industrial Networking Essentials 2A. Industrial Control Systems and IIoT Essentials in Energy 2B. Industrial Control Systems and IIoT Essentials in Manufacturing 3. Industrial Cybersecurity Essentials Each unit consists of several modules (lesson). The modules include course theory, labs, and review questions. At the end of the module a module quiz is taken. Once the quiz has been successfully completed, the next module will unlock. The labs are connected directly to the course materials. Many of them are quite extensive and require a reasonable amount of work. The workspace in Metropolia’s Moodle contains 4 courses (units), that are studied in sequence. At the end each unit, a final test is taken in Moodle. The test consists of approximately 70 multiple-choice questions and the duration is 2.5 hours. All final exam questions are from the course book and the review questions. The passing threshold is 70%. The test can be retaken three times. The course units are completed one at a time. The student is advised to open only the unit they are currently working on and keep the others closed.
