Objective
After completing the course you will be able to - define key concepts related to culture and understand that all students with an immigrant background have a unique cultural background. - identify the challenges that nursing students and nurses with an immigrant background face during their practice and work and understand how these challenges can impact learning and integration in the health care field. - communicate the importance of effective communication and interaction in student nursing and identify ways to promote interaction. - reflect on your own cultural competence in student counselling and identify areas for further development.
Methods of completion
1. Develop your cultural competence, communication and interaction skills, and student management skills by acquiring knowledge and carrying out learning tasks. 2. Apply your intercultural student counselling skills when creating a professional ePoster. 3. Demonstrate your knowledge in a final exam.
Methods of completion
The course is a self-paced online course in the Moodle learning environment. You will learn the course content through a variety of digital learning materials and assignments. You will demonstrate your competence by creating an ePoster and taking a final exam.
Content
The main themes of the course are - student counselling skills, - cultural competence, - communication and interaction skills in multicultural encounters, and - cultural competence in student counselling in the field of social and health care

Qualifications
There are no prerequisites for the course. It is recommended that you have already worked as a student counsellor. As an undergraduate in the field of social and health care, you should be in the advanced studies phase so that you already have experience of work placements and working in the social care sector.
