Objective

You
- understand the meaning and importance of patient safety
- understand the meaning of patient examination when you make treatment decisions
- can examine the patient systematically and you know how to use equipments safely
- can use the protocols of acute care in different kinds of patient situations
- can implement the main therapy procedures and assist the doctor with them
- can suit your knowledge in different kinds of variable patient situations and with patients of different ages
- can report professonally by using ISBAR-protocol
- can face and interact professionally with different kinds of patients

Content

- comprehensive examination of the patient
- systematic examination of the patient by using ABCDE-protocol
- therapeutic decision making and nurse reception
- medical devices and safety way of using them
- therapeutic procedures and assisting
- interpretation of ECG and taking of ECG
- communication by using ISBAR and VIRVE-phones

Completion alternatives

Emergency care studies (5 credits) only for exchange students:

Orientation 1 credit: Finnish healthcare service system, nurse education and job in Finland, European guidelines, Finnish Red Cross, official cooperation, library databases and guidance
First Aid 1 credit: first aid -course (theory and training day)
Independent studies 1 credit: systematic and comprehensive examination of the patient (cABCDE), interview technique, NEWS and PAWS, ISBAR, evidence based information
Therapeutic measures 1 credit: skill exercises and preparation for them, ALS (theory and training)
Simulations 1 credit: participation in simulation exercises (two simulation days)
