Objective

During the course, the student makes a development project using the Lean six sigman DMAIC method, utilising the tools related to the method. The development project is carried out under the guidance of an experienced mentor who has completed the Lean six sigma black belt training.

During the course, the student makes a development project using the Lean six sigman DMAIC method, utilising the tools related to the method.

Materials

The theory part is completed in the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt theory course.

Teaching methods

During the course, the student makes a development project using the Lean six sigma DMAIC method by the tools which related to the method. The development project is carried out under the guidance of an experienced mentor who has completed the Lean six sigma black belt training. From the project, the student submits a project report.

Student workload

Doing a Six Sigma development project is equivalent to a workload estimate of 100 to 150 hours, depending on the project. The development project is progressing according to a self-developed schedule.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Approved
The project has a justified connection to the organisation's operations and its impacts have been measured or evaluated. The project has a credible main metric.
The "voice of the customer" is involved in the selection and implementation of the project.
In the different phases of the development project, suitable DMAIC project methods have been used. A number of possible causes and solutions have been found.
Statistical methods and/or graphical analyses of data have been used in the project, where applicable.

Abandoned
The project does not have defined goals or has no justified connection with the activities of the organization. There are no metrics for project evaluation.
Customers have not been taken into account at all in the selection or implementation of the development project.
The progress of the project has taken place chaotically and does not follow the DMAIC procedure. There is no credible evidence of the search for root causes or solutions.
