Objective
After completing the study unit
- you know how to develop skills for mathematical processing of technological applications
- you can calculate instantaneous and total change of function
- you know derivation and integration rules
- you can apply the concepts of differential calculus and integral calculus in solving practical problems
Content
The study unit includes:
- limits
- derivation
- differential and error formulas
- extreme values of functions
- integration
- applications of integrals
Location and time
• Spring of the first academic year: 9.1.2023-12.5.2023.
Materials
• Tuomilehto, Holmlund, Huuskonen, Makkonen, Surakka: Insinöörin matematiikka, Edita, ISBN 978-951-37-6352-7.
• Teacher's materials on Moodle.
Teaching methods
• Lectures, exercises and independent study of differential and integral calculus as well as applications in your field.
• The course also includes 3-4 midterm exams and one distance learning assignment.
Exam schedules
• The dates of the mid-term exams will be held according to the progress made.
• Final exam in May 2023 according to the timetable.
• The exam can be repeated twice with the same content until 31.10.2023.
• Re-exams will be announced in the Moodle learning environment.
• This course cannot be taken in EXAM.

• The course can also be completed by final examination in May 2023.

Assessment methods and criteria
• Assessment is based on weekly tests and calculation exercises. If your score is
o 35 % of the maximum score: grade 0,
o 35 % to 47,75 % of the maximum: grade 1,
o 47,75 % to 60,5 % of the maximum: grade 2,
o 60,5 % to 73,25 % of the maximum: grade 3,
o 73,25 % to 86 % of maximum: grade 4 and
o more than 86% of the maximum: grade 5.
• The distance learning assignment for the course must also be returned. The assignment must be returned by 12.5.2023 at the latest.
