Objective

With this course, you will understand the importance of leadership in organizing, directing and implementing the activities of various organizations, groups and other operations.

After completing this course, you will acquire basic knowledge and skills in various areas of management and supervisor work, which include:
1. Tasks related to the implementation and assurance of the (business) strategy
2. Tasks related to the management of the work unit
3. Tasks related to ensuring competence
4. Tasks related to recruitment and orientation
5. Tasks related to employment matters
6. Challenging and surprising tasks
7. Other management and supervisory tasks

Content

The course progresses in stages on the principle of alternating lectures, exercises and self-oriented work. The results and outputs of the assignments are discussed in practice meetings.

It is possible to complete the course with the AHOT procedure by doing a separate AHOT assignment or task. The AHOT procedure requires several years of prior managerial and / or managerial experience.

Materials

The central textbook of the course is Riitta Hyppänen, Edita 2007 - 2013 (the publication can also be borrowed electronically from the Karelia Library). Other material used on the Internet is widely used as other material.

Teaching methods

The pedagogical method of the course is lecture and contact teaching, multidisciplinary teaching, self-study and (where applicable) reverse teaching. Reverse teaching (or flipped classroom) is a form of multidisciplinary teaching that uses online teaching materials to allow more time for teacher-student interaction in the actual lesson.
Most commonly, this is done by giving students a pre-assignment to watch online videos (etc.) and do assignments based on them. In this course, students do a lot of small group work on their own. The contact teaching days will be implemented according to a separate program.

The goal of reverse instruction is to get students to get to know a new subject first independently, after which the subject is continued together in a lesson. Reverse teaching thus emphasizes 1) the student’s own activity in learning, 2) the interaction between students, and 3) the use of technology and Internet resources in teaching.

Exam schedules

Moodle exam at the end of the course. Possibility of re-tryout of the exam within approximately two weeks of the end of the course. Subsequent renewal and tryout opportunities will be agreed with the teacher in charge on a case-by-case basis.
Exam evaluation 0-5 (less than 50% = 0, less than 60% = 1, less than 70% = 2, less than 80% = 3, less than 90% = 4, 90-100% = 5).

AHOT procedure (suitability, criteria and method of implementation to be defined separately (by the teacher in charge)).

Student workload

Completion of the course requires the completion of several (worked in small groups) tasks (passed / completed / failed). This requires self-oriented work and the participation in the course.
However, the workload is reasonable.

Assessment methods and criteria

The course is evaluated on a scale of 0-5. Participation in group work and other hourly work 40% and Exam 60%. We reserve the right to change the emphasis percentages (Teacher in charge).

Assessment criteria, fail (0)

The course is failed if the group assignments have not been passed or the exam result is less than 50% (less than 50% = 0, less than 60% = 1, less than 70% = 2, less than 80% = 3, less than 90% = 4, 90- 100% = 5) or other participation (to be specified by the teacher in charge) has been incomplete.
