Objective
You develope your communication, interaction and co-operational skills in tourism. You also deepen the terminology related to tourism to be able to act orally and in written in Scandinavian working life situations. You understand language skills to be an essential part of your professional know-how. You can introduce different operational environments in tourism from the management point of view, such as restaurant, tourist attraction or enterprise providing accomodation and other services. You can make presentations and market both local and national tourist resorts and discuss Finnish culture. You can read texts related to tourism, e.g. scientific articles and make written presentations.
Content
To arrange a trip (negotiation skills, correspondense), programme and congress services, reading tourism related texts and summarizing them, North Karelia and Finland know-how, Scandinavian culture, tourism vocabulary.

Teaching methods
3 credits = 81 hours of student work, it contains 51 hours of independent learning and 30 hours of contact lectures in class.
We begin week 36 and finish week 50 with an oral exam.
Oral exam is done in pairs or in groups of three students, the topic must be related to future work tasks.
During the course you are learning vocabulary and grammar. You are planning a business trip to Åland (or to Stockholm) where you are supposed to do some marketing and sell your services and tourist attractions to people you meet during your stay. You will compile a portfolio of all the assignments you do during the course.
