Objective

Opiskelija osaa käyttää yleisteknistä englannin kieltä ja hallitsee oman alansa perussanaston. Hän ymmärtää englanninkielen tarpeen työelämässä ja osaa kertoa itsestään ja opinnoistaan englanninkielisen työnhakumenettelyn yhteydessä. Hän selviytyy yleisimmistä jokapäiväisistä suullisista kielenkäyttötilanteista, osaa esitellä oman alansa teknisen tuotteen,palvelun tai yksinkertaisen prosessin. Hän osaa viestiä asianmukaisesti asiakaspalvelutilanteissa suullisesti ja kirjallisesti sekä osaa laatia ja esittää suullisia esityksiä ja hahmottaa lyhyiden raporttien laadinnan periaatteet englanniksi. Hän osaa apuneuvoja käyttäen tulkita oman alansa tekstejä.

Teaching methods

In this course, you will learn to talk about yourself and your studies both orally and in writing. You will also learn how to express your opinion and learn the basics of small talk. You will also learn about different communication styles and registers. During the course, you will learn the basic vocabulary of building services: materials, shapes, dimensions, tools, units, products and services. You will also learn presentation skills in English, customer service situations and telephone and email communication. You will also go through the job application procedure, interview and documents in English. You will also learn the basics of intercultural communication.
