Tavoitteet
This learning period will increase students' ability to collaborate in interenational working environments, establish effective communication channels with different international groups and respond to different expectations on the part of international professionals, personnel and clients.
This period increases also the ability to predict global future development and utilize this knowledge when developing social and health care organizations in Finland.
After completed this learning period students are able to:
- Synthesize large and diverse quantities of information about a global topic concerning future directions of active ageing and evaluate the validity and reliability of the information
- Create international communication and collaborative multiprofessional networks
- Develop understanding of the foreign cultural practices, beliefs and communication characteristics in social and health care environments
- Demonstrate best practices when dealing with cultural differences and deal with cross-cultural misunderstandings through applying knowledge and sensitivity

Toteutuksen valinnaiset suoritustavat
Different ways of studying the course –to be negotiated with the teacher:
-Participating in an international study visit (recommended)
-Participating in cross-cultural projects
-Participating in international conference
-Practicing management skills abroad (working)
-Writing an article/articles for some international publication
-Studying abroad in an international university
-Making a review of some social or health care topic in English-Some other appropriate learning performance
Study visit & article:
-Form groups of two – three students
-Define your learning goals and guestions for the study visit
-Plan the writing process; what, who, how, when-Learn actively during the visit – ask, make notes, discuss, reflect
-Note the idea of international comparison: in this case, between the target country / area & Finland / your own area
-Focus on the context (society, culture, history, political situation etc.), try to understand what are the reasons and explanations behind the services and waysof doing things (here and there)
-Observe and discuss how ageing phenomena is encountered (attitudes, words, ways of working) – and remember the context, again!
-Write an article about the information and experiences gained and lessons learned & new outcoming questions and ideas for future development – in English
When you choose some other international activity than study visit:
-Define your learning goals
-Implement the international activity

- description and reflection of your experiences and learning outcomes
- applying the idea of international comparison: between Finland & the country/countries you learned to know in the international activity
- analysis of the context (society, culture, history, political situation etc.) and reflecting the reasons and explanations behind the services and ways of doing things (here and there)
- consideration about how ageing phenomena is encountered (attitudes, words, ways of working)
- reflection about experiences gained and lessons learned & new outcoming questions and ideas for future development
