Objective

You can apply various learning strategies in your English language studies and you are able to assess your learning and language proficiency according to the European framework of reference for languages. You can tell about yourself, your studies in nursing and future profession and you can write a CV. You master essential professional vocabulary in the field of health care. You are able to communicate appropriately in speech in client contacts related to nursing.You are able to read general and professional texts related to your field of study and you can extract the core content from the texts and summarise it either verbally or in writing.

Content

Learning strategies and self-evaluation; studies at a university of applied sciences; job description of a registered nurse/ public health nurse and writing of a CV; building up and activating the vocabulary in the field of health care: professional titles, hospital wards & departments, patient room, anatomy, instruments & equipment, symptoms & illnesses, description of the state of health & pain etc.; nurse-patient interaction: admission interview, nursing procedures (blood pressure measurement, sample collection, catheterisation, intravenous infusion, medication); telephone English; Email communication and small talk, general and professional texts; verbal and written reporting

Location and time

Opintojakso toteutetaan verkossa alla olevaan oppimateriaaliin pohjautuen. Opintojakso alkaa viikolla 35.

Teaching methods

Osaat hyödyntää erilaisia oppimisstrategioita kielten opiskelussa ja pystyt arvioimaan omaa oppimistasi ja kielitaitoasi eurooppalaisen viitekehyksen mukaan. Osaat kertoa hoitotyön opinnoistasi ja tulevasta ammatistasi sekä osaat laatia CV:n. Hallitset terveysalan keskeisen ammattisanaston. Osaat viestiä asianmukaisesti englannin kielellä hoitotyön suullisissa vuorovaikutustilanteissa. Pystyt lukemaan omaan alan liittyviä yleisiä ja ammatillisia tekstejä ja osaat poimia tekstistä olennaisen tiedon ja kertomaan sen joko suullisesti tai kirjallisesti
