Objective

You know how to argue and to justify your opinions and know how to talk about everyday working life situations. You know how to work in English in various phases of a design process both orally and in writing. You can describe and present processes. You know how to present at a trade fair. You can work in projects run in English.

Content

Spoken communication at work and in customer contacts. Arguing and discussion skills. Trade fairs. Reporting and documentation related to projects. Process description.

Teaching methods

Participating in the contact lessons, independent work individually and in teams, preparing for the lessons independently, assignments in speaking and writing, possible exam in writing and/or speaking

Communication style and register in professional situations in English, the communication in spoken presentations, scientific and engineering reports in writing and speaking, describing technical processes and presenting companies, communicating at trade fairs, persuading others in English, discussing variable topics in engineering.

Completion alternatives

Accreditation of prior learning possible if the skills level is high enough and the student has acquired the skills and knowledge earlier, either at work or formally at a university. The student needs to present the evidence (certificate etc.) of the prior learning to the teacher of the course in question.
The teacher and the student agree on the method, the contents and the time of the demonstration of skills.
If the prior knowledge was acquired in a different field than the course in question, a part of the course can be accredited and another part can be proven with an exam.

Student workload

20-22 hours of contact lessons, approximately 20 hours of independent work and preparing for the lessons, and 13 hours for the assignments
