Objective

You can pronounce Finnish in an understandable manner. You can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases. You are able to use the basic vocabulary and grammar to express your own ideas in elementary everyday situations. You can ask and answer to basic questions. You are able to tell about yourself and use polite phrases and greetings in everyday situations, e.g. meeting friends, asking about the price and ordering.

This course has compulsory attendance. You must attend the lectures.

Content

- Finnish alphabet, consonants, vowels and diphthongs
- Pronunciation
- Sharing personal information: e.g. name, nationality, language skills, family, hobbies, studies
- Numbers and expressions of time
- Basic grammar: e.g. the word order, the verbtypes and the conjugation of verbs, partitive case, polar questions and common interrogatives

Teaching methods

The course has a 50% compulsory attendance rate, i.e. students must attend at least half of the lectures, on campus.
