Objective
The purpose of this course is to provide you with initial information about the country you are coming to.
It should reduce the risk of misunderstandings and help you start integrating and leading an active life in Finland.
Content
The course covers the following topics:
Country and Society
Finns and Finnish Culture
Finnish Welfare State
Laws and Justice
Politics and Civic Participation.
Location and time
The course will be implemented in Nov 2024 - Jan 2025 on the Moodle learning platform of Karelia University of Applied Sciences.
Materials
In this course, we use the English version of the Finland – Civic Orientation Textbook.
The texts have been slightly adapted with the permission of the publisher, Finnish Refugee Council.

Teaching methods
This is a self-paced, non-stop online course for students coming from outside of Finland.
Student workload
It takes an estimated 27 hours or 1 credit to complete the course.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
To get a passing grade you need to get around 75% of the correct answers in the multiple-choice tests.
You are allowed 10-15 minutes to take each quiz and you can retake them once.
