Objective

This course provides you with an overview of central concepts, principles, frameworks and basic tools required for understanding, designing and leading today’s organisations. As you learn and apply the knowledge you have acquired, you are better equipped to deal with some of the complexities and challenges associated with managerial life in organisations and become a better manager.

After completing this course, you are able to determine the basic concepts, issues and theories of organisation, management and leadership. You know how to name the benefits and disadvantages of different organisational structures and how to apply them in different organisations. You are able to evaluate the role of change in modern organisations and identify different leadership styles and justify their impact on organisational behavior. You are also able to take the manager’s perspective on people and organisations.

On campus lectures and assignments. Guest lecturer 9.-10.2.2026: Peter Brandstatter (FH Oberösterreich University of Applied Sciences in Upper Austria).

This course does not include a traditional exam. Instead, assessment is based on an extensive written report and a final presentation. The course begins with a series of lectures, after which the report assignment will be introduced.
