Objective

Opiskelija osaa käyttää yleisteknistä englannin kieltä ja hallitsee oman alansa perussanaston. Hän ymmärtää englanninkielen tarpeen työelämässä ja osaa kertoa itsestään ja opinnoistaan englanninkielisen työnhakumenettelyn yhteydessä. Hän selviytyy yleisimmistä jokapäiväisistä suullisista kielenkäyttötilanteista, osaa esitellä oman alansa teknisen tuotteen,palvelun tai yksinkertaisen prosessin. Hän osaa viestiä asianmukaisesti asiakaspalvelutilanteissa suullisesti ja kirjallisesti sekä osaa laatia ja esittää suullisia esityksiä ja hahmottaa lyhyiden raporttien laadinnan periaatteet englanniksi. Hän osaa apuneuvoja käyttäen tulkita oman alansa tekstejä.

Teaching methods

Students will be able to use general technical English and have a command of the basic vocabulary of their field. They understand the need for English in the workplace and can communicate about themselves and their studies in the context of job applications in English. They will be able to cope with the most common everyday oral language situations, to present a technical product, service or simple process in their field. They can communicate appropriately in customer service situations, both orally and in writing, and can prepare and deliver oral presentations and outline the principles of short reports in English. They can interpret texts in their field with the aid of tools.
