Objective
A) Internal Medicine 1 ETCS
- You understand how most common internal medicine problems are diagnosed and treated
- You know how to use essential medical information when treating an internal medicine patient or client
B) Geriatrics 1 ETCS
- You know the most common geriatric disorders / illnesses and diseases
- You know how most common geriatric illnesses and diseases are diagnosed and treated
- You understand the main changes brought by ageing and morbidity characteristics associated with ageing
- You understand the evaluation of functional capacity and comprehensive geriatric assessment of older people
- You understand the basics and the challenges of pharmacotherapy and pain management in the care of older people
- You are able to assess nutrition and nutritional status in older people.
- You learn to apply knowledge related to the most common geriatric conditions and syndromes in the care of ageing clients
C) Pharmacology 1 ECTS
- You familiarize yourself with the most essential basic concepts of pharmacology
- You familiarize yourself with drug binding and drug response
- You familiarize yourself with the pharmacology, pharmacodynamics, indications, effect mechanisms and the most common adverse effects of the most commonly used medicines.
D) The Basics of Pharmacotherapy 2 ETCS
- You are familiar with the laws and principles governing pharmacotherapy
- You understand the principles of medication safety in social and health care
- You understand the need for medication and the evaluation of its effectiveness in multidisciplinary social and health care
- You understand the principles of rational pharmacotherapy (effectiveness, safety, economy, equality and quality) from the perspective of the individuals and society
- You can describe the medication process
- You know how to implement safe medication in accordance with the responsibilities of your own professional role
- You know how to plan, implement and evaluate the patient's daily medication
- You are familiar with different pharmaceutical dosage forms and routes of administration
- You can perform dosage calculations correctly as part of patient safety
- You understand the importance of adherence to medication
- You can guide the patient and their relatives in the correct dosing and use of medicines
- You know how to use the main databases in pharmacotherapy

A) Internal Medicine 1 ETCS
- Neurological disorders (epilepsy, MS, Parkinson's disease, treatment of cerebral infarction)
- Common blood disorders and their treatment
- Cardiac disorders (basic ECG interpretations, arrhythmias and their treatment, treatment of pacemaker patients, treatment of acute myocardial infarction, valve defects and their treatment)
- Forms of cancer treatment and future prospects of cancer care
- Treatment of a kidney patient (treatment of a patient with a chronic renal failure, dialysis treatment)
- Urology (incontinence, kidney diseases)
- Asthma diagnostics and treatment
- Anticoagulants and their challenges
- Future prospects for the treatment of type 1 diabetes
- Future prospects for the treatment of type 2 diabetes
B) Geriatrics 1 ETCS
- Sickness and morbidity in old age
- Physiology of ageing, changes brought by ageing
- Clinical characteristics of the older patient (incl. frailty syndrome, gerastenia)
- Acutely ill older adults (incl. delirium, infections)
- Memory disorders - prevalence, etiology, diagnostics and symptoms (incl. AT, VCI, LBD, PDD, frontotemporal lobe degeneration)
- Functional capacity and geriatric assessment
- Pain management in older people
- Medication challenges in older people and overall evaluation of medication
- Nutritional status in older people and its assessment

Opintojakson osat A,B ja C: verkkotenttipaketit opiskelet itsenäisesti verkossa. Aloita verkkotenttipakettien opiskelu hyvissä ajoin heti opintojakson alkamisen jälkeen, jotta ehdit varmasti suorittaa tentit (varsinaiset sekä tarv. uusinnat) opintojakson päättymiseen mennessä.

Teaching methods
Opintojakson osat A, B ja C: Opiskelet näitä osia koskevat verkkotenttipaketit itsenäisesti. Ne on suositeltavaa opiskella ohjatussa järjestyksessä A:sta C:hen ja verkkotentit tulee suorittaa hyväksytysti opintojakson toteutusaikataulussa.
Opintojakson osa D: Tässä osiossa opiskelet ja teet oppimistehtäviä sekä itsenäisesti että ohjatusti. Huomiothan, että osan C eli Farmakologia suorittamista suositellaan osan D Lääkehoidon perusteet opetuksen alkamisen jälkeen tai opintojakson suorittamisen yhteydessä, koska ko. osien yhtäaikainen opiskelu tukee toistensa sisältöjä.
Student workload
pintojakson suorittamiseen tulee varata yhteensä 5 op x 27 h/ op = 135 h opiskelijan työaikaa, joka sisältää seuraavat:
A) Sisätaudit 1 op: UEF:n verkkotenttipaketin itsenäinen opiskelu 27 h
B) Geriatria 1 op: UEF:n verkkotenttipaketin itsenäinen opiskelu 27 h
C) Farmakologia 1 op: UEF:n verkkotenttipaketin itsenäinen opiskelu 27 h
D) Lääkehoidon perusteet 2 op: luennot, työpajatunnit, itsenäinen opiskelu, oppimistehtävät ja verkkotentti = 54 h, josta:
Kontaktiopetus 28 h
Luennot: 10 h
Lääkelaskentatunnit ja –kokeet: 9 h (6 h harjoitukset + kokeet 3x1 h)
Työpajatunnit: 8 h
Itsenäinen opiskelu 26 h
Oppimistehtävät: Oppiportin verkkokurssit ja materiaaleihin perehtyminen 25 h
Verkkotentti: 1 h
