Objective

After completing the Age-Friendly Society course, you will master the key concepts of age competence and recognize the broad perspectives of ageing issues at the micro, meso and macro levels.

In addition, you will be able to
- assess the individual needs and life situations of older people in a broad and comprehensive manner
- critically examine current societal discussions on ageing
- analyze the development needs of the operating environment of older people
- manage and develop multidisciplinary cooperation

Content

Age-related knowledge and age-friendliness are increasingly important for actors in various fields and in a variety of operating environments. In an age-friendly society and community, older people are seen as active actors and influencers. With age-friendly orientation, you can support the inclusion, agency and well-being of older people.

The topics of the course are:

1. Ageing society
- Age, ageing, ageing theories
- Ageing society and age-friendliness
- Generational and life-stage perspectives
- Ageing issues in the European context
- Diverse age competence

2. Well-being and inclusion of older people
- Supporting the well-being, health and functional capacity of older people
- Legislation, strategies, development activities, social and health care and regional reform
- Development of services for older people: current affairs
- Utilization of technology: current affairs

3. Towards an age-friendly society
- Age-friendly company, age-friendly municipality, age-friendly society, age-friendly countryside
- Age diversity in working life and its management
- Memory-friendly Finland
- Multidisciplinary development

Regardless of your professional field, the course is suitable for those who want to develop their age-friendly approach and age competence in practical work and theoretical thinking

Teaching methods

You study online. The study includes online meetings, peer discussions, independent work in an online environment, and applied reflection related to the course assignments.
