Objective
With this course, you will understand the importance of leadership in organizing, directing and implementing the activities of various organizations, groups and other operations.
After completing this course, you will acquire basic knowledge and skills in various areas of management and supervisor work, which include:
1. Tasks related to the implementation and assurance of the (business) strategy
2. Tasks related to the management of the work unit
3. Tasks related to ensuring competence
4. Tasks related to recruitment and orientation
5. Tasks related to employment matters
6. Challenging and surprising tasks
7. Other management and supervisory tasks
Content
The course progresses in stages on the principle of alternating lectures, exercises and self-oriented work. The results and outputs of the assignments are discussed in practice meetings.
It is possible to complete the course with the AHOT procedure by doing a separate AHOT assignment or task. The AHOT procedure requires several years of prior managerial and / or managerial experience.

Autumn semester, Wärtsilä Campus, Karelia University of Applied Sciences, Joensuu.
Materials
The central textbook of the course is Riitta Hyppänen, Edita 2007 - 2013 (the publication can also be borrowed electronically from the Karelia Library). Other material used on the Internet is widely used as other material.
Teaching methods
This study course has lectures and exercises and more material in Moodle (downloads, links and a book). During lectures, experiences are discussed and shared, which are deepened in groups during practice classes.
Teaching methods include individual work, group work and teacher-led work.

Exam schedules
Moodle exam at the end of the course. Possibility of re-tryout of the exam within approximately two weeks of the end of the course.
Exam evaluation 0-5 (less than 50% = 0, less than 60% = 1, less than 70% = 2, less than 80% = 3, less than 90% = 4, 90-100% = 5).
Completion alternatives
AHOT procedure (suitability, criteria and method of implementation to be defined separately (by the teacher in charge)).
Student workload
Completion of the course requires the completion of several (worked in small groups) tasks. This requires self-oriented work and the participation in the course.
However, the workload is reasonable.
