Objective
Learning Outcomes
After completing this learning unit students are able to;
- Search, critically analyse and synthesize diverse information on current global topics and trends regarding active ageing and age friendly society focusing on the concept and practice of ageing in place
- Develop scientific and professional, international communication and collaboration networks with communities interested in active ageing in place and age friendly societies
- Develop critical understanding and demonstrate best ethical and sustainable practices when dealing with cultural diversities, practices, beliefs and communication in the context of ageing in place
Content
Indicative Content;
Concepts of ageing in place
Determinants, drivers and obstacles for practice of ageing in place locally, nationally and globally, with examples of chosen cultures
Requirements and means/tools, internal and external, for developing ageing in place practice
Location and time
Collaborate on line platform

This module is offered in English language only.
Completion alternatives
Different ways of studying the module –to be negotiated with the teacher:
-Participating in an international study visit (recommended)
-Participating in cross-cultural projects
-Participating in international conference
-Practicing management skills abroad (working)
-Writing an article/articles for some international publication
-Studying abroad in an international university
Studying an on-line module in foreign language, and writing a report in English.

Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment is based on the written assignment about the international activity. Karelia's common assessment criteria are applied in the assessment. Assignment can be individual or group report, with individual reflection on learning.
Further information
The preparatin for this unit starts in the previous semester, due to the study visit arrangements, but the unit itself takes place in the spring semester.
