Objective

The student understands the advantages and limitations of wood material as a building material and knows the most commonly used wood-based products. In addition to the student’s material know-how, students should understand the wood construction systems and the weaknesses and strengths associated with the systems. During the course the student focuses also on the specific issues in wood construction such as fire engineering design and sound insulation.

- Small laboratory wood strength test

Wood products:
- The main wood products used in construction
- Material production technology
- Prefabrication

Wood structure:
- Basic of different wood structures
- Basic of construction physics

Construction systems:
- Basics of wood construction systems
- Advantages and strengths of different systems
- Team work and report of chosen construction system
- Webinar presentation

Specific questions:
- Fire safety
- Acoustic design
- Log construction

Project work (2 cr)
- Course include project work in wood laboratory
