Objective

After the course student can:  - Describe the phases and functions of wood supply process, - Identify the influence of operator/driver, working conditions and machine/vehicle fleet in the wood supply process, - Understand the importance of occupational safety, cost and energy efficiency as well as quality in forest operations and logistics,  - Apply the cost accounting models of wood-harvesting machinery and timber trucking fleet, and  - Describe the subject areas which are currently investigated and developed in forest operations and logistics.

Forest technology as a discipline   Occupational safety and Nordic operating environment   Timber sales and planning harvesting site  Planning wood supply process   Harvesting methods and equipment  Long-distance transportation of roundwood (road, railways and waterways)   Storage and terminal operations at mills   Silviculture technology   Forest work science and cost accounting Forest work science and cost accounting

No prerequisites.

Lectures (16 h), project work in groups (24 h) & cost calculation exercises in groups (14 h) Evaluation: Performance in project work (70%) and performance in cost calculation exercises (30%). Grading scale 0-5
