Objective
This study unit is taught in Finnish. The The translation has not been updated after 31 July 2025. Please change the language to Finnish in Peppi and read the description in Finnish. The student understands human-forest relationship as a phenomenon and is aware of her/his own as well as different human-forest relationships of others and understands how human-forest relationships impact on forest related decisions in individual and societal levels. The student can describe main historical eras of forest use in Finland. The student understands how present forest use is connected to its history and how the past influences forest practices of today and future. The course develops the following generic skills: critical thinking, interaction and communication, sustainability and responsibility.
Content
• Perspectives and concepts from different disciplines related to forests and their use • Historical eras of forest use in Finland • Forest conflicts and their cultural causes • Research on human-forest relationships • Landscape valuations and the impact of forest management on the landscape (from 1.8.2024)
