French 4Laajuus (4 cr)

Objective

Having completed the course, the students can interact both orally and in writing in different communicative situations met while in exchange. They can arrange a meeting by telephone, talk about health issues and go to a doctor’s appointment, the Finnish educational system, Finland and their own studies as well as compare higher education in Finland and in France, and propose to do something, express their opinion and describe a person. The students have knowledge of the French working culture and of a training job interview in France. The objective is to attain the B1 level of the Common European Framework.

Content

Students will practice using both written and spoken French in the communicative situations listed in the learning outcomes and learn the necessary linguistic structures and vocabulary needed in these situations as well as get acquainted with the French culture and customs. Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1) Opiskelija hallitsee välttävästi kurssilla opiskeltua sanastoa, fraseologiaa ja rakenteita mutta sanaston tuntemuksen puute aiheuttaa toistoa ja epätäsmällisyyttä ilmaisussa eikä ilmaisu ole läheskään aina kohdekielen mukaista. Kieliopillisia virheitä, jotka vaikeuttavat viestin välittymistä. Opiskelija tuntee joitakin harvoja kurssilla esiteltyjä kohdekielisen kulttuurin ja oman kulttuurinsa eroja ja osaa joissakin tilanteissa mukauttaa viestintäänsä kohdekielisen kulttuurin mukaiseksi. 2) Opiskelija hallitsee tyydyttävästi kurssilla opiskellut sanaston, fraseologian ja rakenteet ja osaa käyttää niitä melko tarkoituksenmukaisesti niin suullisesti kuin kirjallisestikin. Sanaston tuntemuksen puute aiheuttaa toistoa ja epätäsmällisyyttä ilmaisussa eikä ole aina kohdekielen mukaista. Kieliopillisia virheitä, jotka vaikeuttavat melko paljon viestin välittymistä. 5) Opiskelija hallitsee erinomaisesti kurssilla opiskellut sanaston, fraseologian ja rakenteet ja osaa käyttää niitä tarkoituksenmukaisesti ja monipuolisesti niin suullisesti kuin kirjallisestikin. Rakenteet ovat lähes virheettömiä eivätkä virheet estä viestin ymmärtämistä. Opiskelija tuntee kurssilla esitellyt kohdekielisen kulttuurin ja oman kulttuurinsa erot ja osaa mukauttaa viestintäänsä kohdekielisen kulttuurin mukaiseksi.

Further information

Accreditations, exemption examinations or alternative courses are not available for the course or parts of the course. The course is aimed at students of all disciplines. Campus Joensuu, Kuopio.

Execution methods

Contact instruction on Zoom or other web meeting. The course includes brief lectures, pair and group exercises and guided independent study. The course progresses rapidly, and learning requires attendance of the contact sessions as well as regular independent study.

Accomplishment methods

Participating in instruction 48 h (minimum attendance requirement is 50 %), completing the course assignments and exercises (54 h) and three exams (6 h) (altogether 108 h). Starting from 1st August 2024 there are two exams. Completing the course requires that the minimum of 50 % attendance in the instruction and completing the assignments and exercises in the given schedule. Evaluation criteria: Active participation in the instruction pass-fail, video and written assignments pass-fail, exams 0-5. The lowest passable score in the exams is 65 % of the maximum score. The final grade of the course is the average of the three exams 0-5. The resit of the exam is approximately in a month from the exam. After this, the next possibility to attend a resit will be when the course is organized next time. To enrol in the resit, send an email to teacher of the course no later than ten days before the resit.
