Objective

The student knows the characteristics of studying and learning at an Institute of Higher Education.
He/she knows North Karelia University of Applied Sciences as a learning environment.
He/she knows the objectives and study opportunities of the degree programme.
He/she can function in the operational environment of his/her own educational field and in NKUAS. He/she can use the electronic services used at NKUAS.

The student knows him/herself as a learner and can set goals for his/her learning and progress.
He/she accepts responsibility for his/her learning, and will learn how to plan his/her studies and govern his/her time use.
The student devises a supervised personal study plan (HOPS in Finnish), which is defined yearly.

The student understands that the acquisition and management of information are an important part of the learning process and development of professional skills. The student can write documents required in studies and in the working life that follow given instructions concerning language and layout. The student develops his/her skills in scientific writing and reporting.

The student can use computers and other tools, as well as networks in his/her studies, and work in a secure and responsible manner. The student can use up-to-date communication technology in various communication situations, and in acquisition and distribution of information. The student can function in changing data environments and networks.
