Objective

The student
- is aware of research and development (R&D) being part of her/his professional competence
- the student understands the significance of ethics in R&D
- the student knows the differences and similarities of basic research, applied research and development
- the student adopts basic knowledge on research and development methodology
- the student is capable of acquiring and utilizing knowledge based on R&D in her/his own field

Content

1. Foundations of R&D
- basic research, applied research, R&D, development
- lines of reasoning
- information retrieval, critical assessment of sources

2. Methods of development
- creation, innovation

3. Different kinds of data
- qualitative, quantitative, visual and auditive data

4. Statistical litaracy
- becoming familiar with statistics and statistical reasoning
- statistics in the student's own field

5. Ethical issues in R&D

6. Writing R&D reports
