Objective

You will learn what kind of language Swedish is (in the Nordic context) and how to pronounce Swedish. You will also learn to understand short texts and simple messages. You can pick up interesting and important words from a text about everyday life and your immediate environment (e.g. bilingual signs and signposts). You can write sentences and short simple texts according to different models. You can introduce yourself and tell about your immediate environment (family, accommodation). You understand and can use words and phrases in everyday situations (e.g. greetings, small talk). You can ask questions and answer them, you get to know different teaching aids, materials, and tools for language learning (textbooks, dictionaries, applications, etc.)

Content

The course covers what is special about the Swedish language, including going through the alphabet with the letters å ä ö and their Swedish pronunciation. You will learn words and numbers (e.g. times, dates, prices) and also everyday vocabulary related to the Finnish and Nordic lifestyle. Adjectives, which are needed to describe appearance and colours when, for example, you go shopping (for clothes). The course also covers dates and times (e.g. days of the week, months, seasons). The basic grammar focuses on verb forms, nouns, pronouns, and prepositions, word order, and how to form sentences and clauses. In addition, you will learn question words and phrases.
