Objective

- You are able to assess how values and ethical principles guiding elderly care are realized in practice.
- You understand the physiological changes related to normal aging and their connection to the functional capacity of older adults as well as their care and service needs.
- You are able to assess, promote, and support the health, well-being, and functional capacity of older adults using a resource-oriented approach.
- You understand the importance of home-based services, technology and digitalization, and multidisciplinary collaboration in elderly care.
- You are able to plan and implement care and services for older adults that support their independence and self-determination.
- You recognize key challenges in elderly care.

Content

- Foundations of elderly care: values, ethical principles, key legislation and recommendations.
- Aging-related changes.
- Resources as a basis for promoting healthy and functional aging.
- Implementation of holistic gerontological nursing care (physical, psychological, social, and cognitive functional capacity).
- Special characteristics of elderly care (e.g., loneliness, social exclusion, abuse, risk of malnutrition, safe medication management, fall prevention, care of chronic wounds).
- Nursing care for people with memory disorders.
- Assessment of acute care needs in older adults.
- Gerontechnology and digitalization in supporting the everyday life of older adults.
