Objective

You understand the aquatic ecosystem and its catchment as a physic-chemical, hydrological, biological and ecological wholeness and you know the basics of the qualitative and quantitative methods for estimating and evaluating the condition of the ecosystem and the possible management and restoration techniques. You know the fundamentals of working of chemical analytics in the laboratory and in the field (in situ) working environment and you are able to use these physic-chemical analytical equipment under the guidance of the lecturer. You are capable to use elementarily GIS and land surveying equipment applied especially connected with the aquatic ecosystem management.

Content

The elementary basics of the soil science and geology, the measuring and calculating loads and discharges and physic-chemical processes between the catchment and watercourse. The basics of planning, sampling and measuring technics, the basics of the chemical analytics in the laboratory and during the field working and the applied use of GIS systems and the elements of surveying. Preliminary introduction into the management and restoration techniques connected with the real projects in Eastern Finland. Preparing the reports and presentations based on the data you have collected by field and laboratory working in according to the construction of a scientific report.
