Separation Processes of Emission ControlLaajuus (6 cr)
Code: BIY6017
Credits
6 op
Teaching language
- Finnish
Responsible person
- Juha Kilpeläinen
Objective
You know the significance of emission control for both large industrial plants and local small-scale industries and identify the most suitable emission control methods for different targets. You know the most significant emission sources both on the national and local level. You master the functioning principles of different solid fractions as parts of waste management processes. You master functioning principles and process systems of separation processes for liquid emissions in the waste and side product water regarding industry, communities and sparsely populated areas. You know the most common processes of drinking water manufacturing. You master the definition of energy balances of separation processes and are able to evaluate the energy efficiency and environmental impacts of different solutions.
Content
The emission amounts and compositions in energy production, waste management and waste water cleaning. Separation processes as part of solid community waste handling and recycling. The mechanical, chemical and biological cleaning processes and their process systems in central sewage cleaning plants and in decentralised processes. Evaluation of cost- and energy efficiency in emission control and general criteria choosing separation methods. The utilizable side products in different emission control processes.
