Objective

Core content:
The student is introduced to the concepts of layout, visual design, semantics and visual communication. The student gets familiar with the Illustrator program tool by designing small simple graphics. The course is integrated with the English language course, where the student becomes aware of and familiar with the basics of professional English

Learning outcomes:
The course aim provides student with the competencies needed in order to carry out small graphic design works independently and the understanding of the graphic design work basic stages. During the course, students master basic composition skills and develop their own visual expression skills. In addition, the student becomes acquainted with the typographic design of the text and understands the typography's potential as a means of expression. The course includes small publications and composition exercises for individual and/or teamwork.

The student evaluation is based on the course exercises and active participation. The course is completed when all assignments have been successfully completed - included in the delivered sketchbook - and the self-assessment document is delivered in Moodle.


Assessment scale: 0-5

The assessment is based on the below competences:

- Learning Skills (demostrate & reflect)
- Working Community Expertise (operate & interpret)
- Innovation Competence (generate & debate)

5: The student is able to make extensive use of source materials, is able to produce rich and expressive visual material, assesses his / her own learning and skills in a versatile and critical way, and is able to question his / her own views.
3-4: The student masters the qualities and functions of visual elements in design and layout - is able to use software tools independently and in a controlled way - is able to justify the solutions he / she has made and evaluate his / her skills in a realistic way.
1-2: The student is able to carry out visual design assignments, is able to find and utilize relevant literature, manages the basic use of software tools, is able to evaluate his / her working process in written form, participates actively in group work.
