Osaamistavoitteet
After completing the study unit, the student will be able to - identify basic concepts and phenomena relating to 'culture' and intercultural communication, - apply theories of intercultural communication and communicating interculturality into their own professional context, - pay attention to and critically analyse their cultural awareness and communication skills, - analyse the role of intercultural communication competence as a professional skill in various work settings. The study unit develops the following generic skills: Internationality, Critical thinking, Interaction and communication.

Timing: 1.–2. period (Fall), 3.–4. period (Spring). Offering information: The study unit has a total of 60 student places: 20 for UEF students, 20 for YUFE students, and 20 for students of Karelia University of Applied Sciences. If the quota of any student group is not filled, the student places can be filled with students from other groups. In the UEF, this study unit is a mandatory part of the Masters’ Degree Programme in Early Language Education for Intercultural Communication, and the Minor subject studies of Professional Intercultural Competence. In addition, all the degree students as well as international non-degree students are welcome if the study unit is not filled by the above-mentioned students. The teacher will confirm the registration by email. After the registration deadline, it is not possible to subscribe to the course.

Suoritustavat
Modes of study: Lectures 5 h (remote teaching), Independent study and pair or group work 130 h. Assessment criteria: Learning assignments in the online learning environment: altogether 3 assignments; 2 assignments assessed on the five step scale 0-5, 1 assignment assessed Pass/Fail.
