Objective

• Recognize and define the concept of inclusion across various contexts.
• Identify key interactions between inclusion and social, cultural, economic, and ecological factors.
• Develop an understanding of empowerment.
• Identify supporting factors that foster empowerment in diverse environments.
• Gain insight into systemic approaches to inclusion and empowerment.
• Understand the importance of viewing individuals and groups within broader systems.
• Explore interconnections between inclusion, empowerment, and systemic thinking.
• Understand the roles of peer groups, citizen science, and multipliers.
• Identify how these elements contribute to inclusive and empowering practices.

Content

This MC provides students with a basic understanding of inclusion and empowerment of older persons both on a general level as well as in relation to the climate-health nexus. A systemic and holistic approach of inclusion and empowerment taking into consideration the concept of sustainability will be introduced. Levels of inclusion (individuals, families, groups, society) as well as the interlink with social, cultural, economic and ecological circumstances as well as resources will be covered. Students will gain an understanding of conducive factors of the empowerment of older persons, and how to build strategies and interventions which strengthen the abilities of individuals, families and groups in the face of climate change.

You must begin with the course Climate Change and Its Effects on Older Persons’ Health, as it forms the foundation for the other microcredentials. The course is at EQF level 6 (Bachelor’s degree level).
